The top and bottom tracks for wall studs or the end support closures for floor joist framing are made of U-shaped channel runners. Axial loadbearing walls, curtain walls, tall interior partitions, floor joists, and roof truss assemblies can all be built using U steel track.
A U-shaped framing element called USG ME track is utilized as top and bottom runners to hold wall studs in place. The track is also utilized as head and sill plates of wall openings, solid blocking, and end support closures for joists at external or foundation walls. Typically, it is ordered in the same size and gauge as the wall studs. For deflection situations or to account for uneven or variable floor or ceiling circumstances, other options (regular flange, deep flange or extra deep flange) are utilized.
